We are so happy to have found the Good K9 Academy! After completing the 2 week board & train program, our corgi is now turning heads with how eagerly she follows commands like "heel" and a sustained "place" ! The pack walks for alumni are a highlight! When we needed to board our corgi, we knew our pup would be in the best hands. Caroline possesses a rare combination of expertise and kindness that makes dogs feel safe and eager to learn. She also made long-distance flights with our corgi possible by teaching us to train her to feel safe in her travel carrier bag, ensuring a positive travel experience. I highly recommend the Good K9 Academy!

Caroline and Andrew did an amazing job with our energetic 5 year old mixed breed dog who was in desperate need of training. They formulated a clear plan for his board and train and made us feel comfortable throughout his whole stay with regular updates on his progress and wellbeing. When we picked him up they gave us the skills and training we needed to continue his obedience at home. Would highly recommend!ServicesDog boarding with training

We sent our Golden Retriever, Oscar, to the two-week board and train with David to work on leash pulling and reactivity to loud sounds outside and he did an amazing job. Oscar is now a pro heeler, listens when we say commands and while he is always a bit fearful, David gave us ways to help Oscar cope with the these fears. I could not recommend Good K8 Academy enough for any type of training your dog might need!! They are pros and know how to help the most stubborn of dogs.

We had a very reactive and hard to train rescue dog but David and team were great at adapting their style to her. They provided her with customized training during the bootcamp, and helped train us to be better owners as well. The team continued to provide us with support and advice through our journey, including additional training sessions, boarding, and daycare. They are great people all around and have created a supportive community for dogs and owners alike. We love good K9 and would highly recommend!!ServicesDog boarding with training, Dog boarding, Dog training

Our two dogs Remi and Wini went through the 2 week boot camp with Caroline and David. We were not sure our dogs were even trainable but Caroline and David did it! They are very knowledgeable and experienced with training. They kept us updated each day along with pictures and videos of the progress. I can't say enough good things about the Good K9 Academy's board and train program. Our pup went with Dylan for the two week board and train, and he was amazing. When she got back, it was like having a totally different puppy. Before, she would lunge and bark at kids and runners, pull at the harness, lag behind forever, and was generally not that pleasant to walk. Now, we can go off leash in the park and on trails and she stays close by (she's just shy of 9 months), she responds to commands like come and place and sit, she ignores runners and kids, and she's just so much more behaved. It's like she matured 6 mos to a year since she went to boarding, and is a calmer, happier dog. Also, Dylan had such a lovely bond with her that we felt great about leaving her with him for two weeks, and he sent us pics and videos as well, which helped when we missed her. If you're looking for a positive reinforcement-based board and train for your pup, I *highly* recommend Good K9 academy.

Good K9 Academy is amazing. Caroline and David trained our two pups Bella and Sophie. We enrolled the pups in the 2 weeks board and train program which we highly recommend. When we dropped off Bella, our 3 year old Labradoodle, we told David the trainer, that Bella had serious behavioral issues, like barking at strangers, dogs, sign posts, lunging while barking, pulling on walks, you name it. David assured us that Bella will be transformed and we will see significant changes in Bella’s behavior at the end of the program. When we picked up Bella at the end of the two weeks program, we could not believe the transformation. Bella now walks by our side, she comes when called, she is no longer barking or lunging at people.Prior to the training, our 5 year old Golden Doodle Sophie, would not take commands, she loves people so she used to jump on them and would pull on walks.Caroline at the Good K9 was amazing. She sent, videos, photos and updates on how Sophie was doing. This was very important to us since it was our first time boarding our dogs for more than a couple of days. When we picked up Sophie, she was literally off leash ❤️🙌. We now enjoy walking Sophie off leash. When called she comes and sits on the left side and no longer pulls.Thank you Caroline and David, for relieving us from what was a stressful existence with our pups.We would recommend Caroline and David at Good K9 Academy one million times over. Thank you for everything!!!!John and Grace

We couldn't be happier with our experience with Good K9 Academy. Caroline worked wonders with our high energy cavapoo puppy during his two-week board and train program. The regular video and picture updates provided us with peace of mind, and Caroline's communication throughout the process was great. We wholeheartedly trust the team at Good K9 Academy and cannot recommend them enough!!

Transformational!David w/K9 is an amazing trainer and exceeded our expectations. Our dog Duke is a 1yo Standard Poodle (75 pounds) with a ton of energy and prey drive. Duke spent 2 weeks with David in a board & train program and came home an absolutely different dog. One of my fav parts of the training was the 2+ hour handoff, where David did a knowledge transfer and made sure Duke was responding to all my commands and I had a high degree of confidence I could continue on my own. Our goal for Duke is to be an exemplary doggy citizen and this was the best investment we could have ever made. 10/10, highly recommended.

I'm so happy to have found Good K9!! I have a year and half old German Shepherd, Bud, who I've been training and taken to trainers since he was a puppy. Recently he was showing a lot of reactivity towards other dogs and people. After trying another trainer local to me and having no luck in solving the issue I called Good K9. Andrew was very knowledgeable and was super quick to get a eval in. While in the board and train he sent me frequent updates and videos on how my dog was doing and progressing which was so nice and reassuring. When I picked Bud up the videos rang true and his reactivity compared to before was like night and day. Bud could now walk throw barking dogs and groups of people without caring. Andrew even got him to reach my goal of an off leash heel! Most importantly I can truly see how much he and the company cares for the dogs in their care and I felt at ease that my dog would be safe with them. Andrew treated and trained my dog as if it were one of his pups and I'm so grateful. If you have any doubts on where to go - take. your. dog. here.

Exceptionally well performance.David is the one that trained my 4.5 year old French Bulldog, Greyson. Not only have the results shown since his graduation, David took exceptionally great care of Greyson during his 2-week board and train. He sent me updates all along the way and took special care discussing dietary needs and other matters. David showed a true care beyond the job, as well as beyond my expectation. At graduation, David was very confident, detailed, had patience, and took his time with everything. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.Andrew is who I made first contact with, and he made everything very easy. He gave me several different options and really catered to what I was looking for. He didn't push for the highest package or the most training; he let me decide what was best for the results I wanted. That was much appreciated it.Overall, the performance of Good K9 Academy, the trainer, David, and the ease of communication and coordination were exceptional. I look forward to working with them more in the future for boarding, meet-ups, and maybe training if we have any additions to our family.Thank you David, and Good K9 Academy for everything.-Jayden

Charlie (3yo Golden) and Cleo (1yo Golden) just graduated from the two week board and train program. They did an incredible job! I never would have thought it possible to have them off leash and not reactive prior to this. I am super excited to use this training in our everyday lives and be able to take them more places without having anxiety about their behavior. The trainers truly care about the dogs and are great in providing you regular updates. Thank you Andrew, Kristyn, David and Dylan! If you are on the fence about signing up your dog, just do it! It is 1000% worth it.

The Fastest Path to a Well-Trained Dog

Good K9 Academy's board and train program is designed for dog owners who want maximum results in the shortest time possible. Your dog goes home with one of our trainers and lives with them for the duration of the program, receiving intensive, professional training every single day. Unlike large kennel operations where dogs sit in runs, your dog becomes part of the trainer's daily life. That means your dog gets direct, one-on-one attention and round-the-clock immersion in a real home environment.

During the two-week board and train, your dog lives with their dedicated trainer in a structured home environment. Training is not limited to a few sessions per day. It is woven into every aspect of your dog's daily routine, from meals and exercise to socialization and downtime. This immersive approach accelerates learning dramatically compared to weekly private lessons or group classes. Dogs that would normally take months of training to achieve reliable obedience often reach that level in just two weeks with our board and train program.

Our board and train program is the most popular choice for families across Montgomery County, including Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, Germantown, Silver Spring, and the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. Whether your dog needs basic obedience, off-leash reliability, or serious behavior modification, the intensive format of board and train delivers results that stick. With 100+ five-star Google reviews, our track record speaks for itself.

A Typical Day in Board and Train

Every day in our board and train program follows a structured routine designed to maximize your dog's learning. Mornings begin with exercise and supervised play, followed by a focused training session covering obedience commands like sit, down, stay, come, place, and heel. Our trainers use a balanced approach that combines positive reinforcement with e-collar training when appropriate, ensuring your dog receives clear and consistent communication throughout the day.

Afternoons include distraction proofing and real-world training exercises. We take dogs to environments with people, other dogs, traffic, and everyday distractions so they learn to perform under pressure, not just in a quiet training room. This real-world proofing is what separates a dog that can sit in your living room from a dog that walks calmly off-leash through a busy park. We also incorporate structured socialization with other trained dogs, building your dog's confidence and social skills in a safe, supervised setting.

Throughout the program, you receive regular updates on your dog's progress, including photos and videos of training sessions. We want you to see the transformation as it happens. The program includes all meals, exercise, daily training sessions, socialization, and overnight care. By the end of the two weeks, your dog will have a solid foundation of reliable obedience, improved behavior, and the confidence to handle real-world situations calmly and responsibly.

Transfer Sessions: You Learn Everything

The board and train program does not end when we finish training your dog. The most critical phase is the owner handoff — a thorough two-hour turnover session where we teach you everything your dog has learned. You work directly with your dog under our guidance as we walk you through every command, every tool, every handling technique, and every correction so you feel completely confident taking over.

We believe that dog training is as much about training the owner as it is about training the dog. If you do not know how to maintain the commands, use the tools properly, and read your dog's body language, the training results will not last. That is why the turnover session is thorough and hands-on. You will practice leash handling, e-collar timing, recall exercises, and real-world scenarios until everything feels natural. After that, all board and train graduates get free alumni pack walks for life — these group sessions are where you continue practicing with your dog in real-world environments alongside other trained dogs and their owners.

After graduation, your dog becomes part of the Good K9 Academy alumni family. All board and train graduates are invited to free alumni pack walks, where your dog can continue practicing obedience and socialization in a group setting with other trained dogs. Our team is always available for follow-up questions, troubleshooting, and support. That ongoing relationship is one of the reasons families in Gaithersburg, Clarksburg, Poolesville, Columbia, and Washington DC choose Good K9 Academy over larger, less personalized programs.

What to Expect After Board and Train

Dogs that complete our board and train program leave with reliable obedience that holds up in real-world situations. That means a dog that walks calmly on a leash without pulling, comes when called even with distractions, holds a down-stay while you eat dinner, and settles on their place bed when guests arrive. For dogs with behavior issues, we address the root cause of problems like reactivity, excessive barking, jumping, destructive behavior, and leash aggression through structured behavior modification.

Our balanced training approach produces dogs that respond because they understand what is expected, not because they are afraid. We combine positive reinforcement with accountability tools like e-collars and structured commands to build a clear communication system between you and your dog. This methodology has been refined over 10 years and across thousands of dogs of all breeds, from Goldendoodles and Labrador Retrievers to German Shepherds, Huskies, and Pit Bulls.

The timeline for results depends on your dog's specific needs. Most dogs in our standard two-week program achieve solid basic obedience and improved behavior. Dogs with more severe issues like dog aggression, human aggression, or deep-rooted anxiety may need a three or four week program. During your free consultation, we will evaluate your dog in person, discuss your goals, and recommend the right program length for maximum results.
