Caroline and Andrew did an amazing job with our energetic 5 year old mixed breed dog who was in desperate need of training. They formulated a clear plan for his board and train and made us feel comfortable throughout his whole stay with regular updates on his progress and wellbeing. When we picked him up they gave us the skills and training we needed to continue his obedience at home. Would highly recommend!ServicesDog boarding with training

After hearing about Good K9 Academy from our friend, we decided to board our dog Sully with Caroline at Good K9 Academy. Sully was extremely reactive before training, and would pull the leash to chase any squirrel, or lunge to say hi to any human or dog that passed us. After the board/train and lots of practice, Sully walks like a service dog and we feel comfortable with him off leash! We cannot say enough good things about Good K9 Academy. When we boarded with Caroline, we were out of the country, and she sent us pictures and videos each day to make us feel at ease. She is so kind, responsive, easy to work with, and great with all dogs. Thank you again Caroline!ServicesDog boarding with training

David has been amazing to work with! We brought our 7-year-old husky mix, Kali, to Good K9 for help with anxiety and reactivity. She spent about eight months in and out of shelters before I adopted her in 2019. After some early success with training, COVID hit us hard — she became anxious, territorial, and leash reactive. Our recent move to Maryland only added to that!Kali’s anxiety made walks tough. She’s also stubborn, stoic, and generally unmotivated😂. David took the time to understand her, and the progress she made in such a short amount of time was impressive. She’s not perfect (and we’re still learning!), but the difference is night and day.I also love that Good K9 doesn’t stop after training. They offer follow-ups as needed and weekly pack walks for continued practice. Would definitely recommend!ServicesDog boarding, Dog training

We had a very reactive and hard to train rescue dog but David and team were great at adapting their style to her. They provided her with customized training during the bootcamp, and helped train us to be better owners as well. The team continued to provide us with support and advice through our journey, including additional training sessions, boarding, and daycare. They are great people all around and have created a supportive community for dogs and owners alike. We love good K9 and would highly recommend!!ServicesDog boarding with training, Dog boarding, Dog training

I cannot say enough great things about this place! I took my dog, Teddy, here for a two-week obedience boarding program, and it was truly the best decision I could have made. From the moment I arrived, I felt an instant sense of professionalism, care, and expertise. Our trainer, David, was phenomenal—incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and communicative throughout the entire process. He kept me updated regularly and made sure I understood everything Teddy was learning. The progress Teddy made in just two weeks was unbelievable! Not only did his obedience improve dramatically, but he also became more confident and well-mannered overall. What really sold me on this place wasn’t just the training itself, but the positive, welcoming energy of the entire facility. I was so impressed that I immediately recommended it to a friend, and as soon as she visited and met David, she signed up for the two-week boarding on the spot—she could feel the same great vibe I did!If you’re looking for top-tier dog training with trainers who truly care about your pup’s success, this is the place to go. Highly, highly recommend! 🐶👏

I can't say enough good things about the Good K9 Academy's board and train program. Our pup went with Dylan for the two week board and train, and he was amazing. When she got back, it was like having a totally different puppy. Before, she would lunge and bark at kids and runners, pull at the harness, lag behind forever, and was generally not that pleasant to walk. Now, we can go off leash in the park and on trails and she stays close by (she's just shy of 9 months), she responds to commands like come and place and sit, she ignores runners and kids, and she's just so much more behaved. It's like she matured 6 mos to a year since she went to boarding, and is a calmer, happier dog. Also, Dylan had such a lovely bond with her that we felt great about leaving her with him for two weeks, and he sent us pics and videos as well, which helped when we missed her. If you're looking for a positive reinforcement-based board and train for your pup, I *highly* recommend Good K9 academy.

Good K9 Academy is amazing. Caroline and David trained our two pups Bella and Sophie. We enrolled the pups in the 2 weeks board and train program which we highly recommend. When we dropped off Bella, our 3 year old Labradoodle, we told David the trainer, that Bella had serious behavioral issues, like barking at strangers, dogs, sign posts, lunging while barking, pulling on walks, you name it. David assured us that Bella will be transformed and we will see significant changes in Bella’s behavior at the end of the program. When we picked up Bella at the end of the two weeks program, we could not believe the transformation. Bella now walks by our side, she comes when called, she is no longer barking or lunging at people.Prior to the training, our 5 year old Golden Doodle Sophie, would not take commands, she loves people so she used to jump on them and would pull on walks.Caroline at the Good K9 was amazing. She sent, videos, photos and updates on how Sophie was doing. This was very important to us since it was our first time boarding our dogs for more than a couple of days. When we picked up Sophie, she was literally off leash ❤️🙌. We now enjoy walking Sophie off leash. When called she comes and sits on the left side and no longer pulls.Thank you Caroline and David, for relieving us from what was a stressful existence with our pups.We would recommend Caroline and David at Good K9 Academy one million times over. Thank you for everything!!!!John and Grace

This review is long overdue. But, in 2021, we decided to adopt a puppy from a shelter. We’ve had two other dogs in the past and we typically did not need a trainer. But, Lani came with a personality of dominance, which we could not manage. She had a mind of her own and wanted to be the boss. I decided to train her with Good K9 Academy. Andrew and Caroline are simply the best! I boarded her for the two weeks and she came back more behaved and obedient. When I had questions or issues they taught me tips and tricks along the process to help me keep Lani in check. Thank you Andrew and Caroline - “you guys are simply the best and definitely better than all the rest”

Exceptionally well performance.David is the one that trained my 4.5 year old French Bulldog, Greyson. Not only have the results shown since his graduation, David took exceptionally great care of Greyson during his 2-week board and train. He sent me updates all along the way and took special care discussing dietary needs and other matters. David showed a true care beyond the job, as well as beyond my expectation. At graduation, David was very confident, detailed, had patience, and took his time with everything. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.Andrew is who I made first contact with, and he made everything very easy. He gave me several different options and really catered to what I was looking for. He didn't push for the highest package or the most training; he let me decide what was best for the results I wanted. That was much appreciated it.Overall, the performance of Good K9 Academy, the trainer, David, and the ease of communication and coordination were exceptional. I look forward to working with them more in the future for boarding, meet-ups, and maybe training if we have any additions to our family.Thank you David, and Good K9 Academy for everything.-Jayden

Highly recommended! Our Sheepadoodle puppy (9-months) Willow is a ball of energy. Super affectionate and social her energy needs to be focused so that we can all enjoy each other. We struggled with a puppy training course that was solely treat reward based as well as numerous harnesses and leash leaders to no avail. Walking with her was exhausting, stressful, and embarrassing. After 2-weeks of training and boarding with Tony we have a better behaved pup who aims to please, appears more at ease and happy, and who listens. She still has a lot of puppy energy and characteristics, but over time with the training we received and consistency from us she will continue to learn. She has been a great dog and now she is even better and we are enjoying each other more. The cost can be high but the results are worth the expense. Thanks Tony and Good K9 Academy!

My dog Wumbo is an Alaskan Malamute. It was my first time having a big dog and I was kinda getting tired of him being a little mischievous, not listening and always getting distracted. Sending him to boarding training gave me a break from him. When he came back he’s calmer and listens to me better. I was so surprised that my dog can walk right next to me now without pulling and sometimes without a leash. Their trainer, David gave me the right tools and the confidence to continue exercising what my dog have learned from training. Good K9 Academy is definitely worth it.

Your Dog Stays with People Who Care

Leaving your dog behind when you travel is stressful. You worry about whether they are being cared for, whether they are anxious, and whether the boarding facility is giving them the attention they need. Good K9 Academy eliminates that stress by providing boarding with professional trainers at our boutique Gaithersburg facility. Your dog is not just stored in a kennel. They are cared for by the same experienced team that runs our obedience, board and train, and behavior modification programs.

Because we are a boutique facility, we only board a small number of dogs at a time. That means your dog gets individualized attention, proper exercise, and a structured daily routine instead of sitting in a run all day waiting for you to come back. Our trainers treat every boarding dog as their own, which is why families across Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, Germantown, Silver Spring, and the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area trust us with their dogs when they travel.

For dogs that have completed our training programs, boarding at Good K9 Academy is an especially comfortable experience. Your dog already knows our facility, our routines, and our team. They feel at home because they have spent time here before. And as a bonus, we maintain their obedience skills during their stay so they come home just as well-trained as when they left. No regression, no new bad habits, just a happy, well-cared-for dog.

Structure, Exercise, and Plenty of Attention

Every boarding dog at Good K9 Academy follows a structured daily routine that includes exercise, supervised play, meals, rest periods, and one-on-one attention from our team. We maintain your dog's regular feeding schedule and accommodate any dietary needs or restrictions. Daily exercise includes walks, play sessions, and outdoor time to keep your dog physically active and mentally stimulated throughout their stay.

We understand that routine and consistency are important for dogs, especially when they are away from home. Our boarding schedule mirrors the structured environment of our training programs, so your dog has a predictable, comfortable day. This is particularly important for dogs with anxiety, as the structure helps them feel secure in an unfamiliar situation. Dogs that are comfortable in a crate will use crate rest periods as downtime, while dogs that prefer open spaces are accommodated accordingly.

Throughout your dog's boarding stay, we send you regular updates including photos and notes about how your dog is doing. We want you to enjoy your trip without worrying, and the best way to do that is to show you that your dog is happy, active, and well cared for. If any health or behavioral concerns arise during the stay, we contact you immediately and can coordinate with your veterinarian if needed.

Preparing for Your Dog's Boarding Stay

To make your dog's boarding stay as comfortable as possible, we recommend bringing their regular food portioned into daily servings, any medications with instructions, and a familiar item like a blanket or toy from home. We provide clean bedding, fresh water, treats, and everything else your dog needs. If your dog has specific dietary needs or takes medication, our team follows your instructions precisely.

All boarding dogs must be current on vaccinations, including rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. We also recommend that dogs be current on flea and tick prevention. During the intake process, we collect emergency contact information, your veterinarian's details, and any behavioral notes that will help us provide the best care for your dog. If your dog has never stayed with us before, we may recommend a trial daycare day before the boarding stay so they can acclimate to the environment.

Drop-off and pickup are scheduled by appointment so we can give you and your dog the personal attention you deserve. At drop-off, we walk through your dog's routine, dietary needs, and any special instructions. At pickup, we give you a summary of how their stay went, including eating, activity levels, and any notable interactions. Our goal is for your dog to have such a positive experience that they are excited to come back next time.

Boarding You Can Actually Trust

The difference between Good K9 Academy boarding and a traditional kennel is the difference between leaving your dog with a friend and leaving them in a warehouse. At a traditional kennel, your dog spends most of the day in a run or small enclosure with minimal interaction. At Good K9 Academy, your dog is part of a small, managed group that receives daily exercise, supervised socialization, structured routines, and genuine attention from professional trainers who love dogs.

Our boarding is especially popular with families whose dogs have been through our training programs. These owners already know and trust our team, and they appreciate that their dog's obedience skills are maintained during the stay. We also offer boarding with training add-ons for dogs that could benefit from additional obedience work or behavior modification during their stay. It is a great way to combine travel convenience with training progress.

With 100+ five-star Google reviews, Good K9 Academy has earned the trust of families across Gaithersburg, Clarksburg, Poolesville, Columbia, and Washington DC for both training and boarding services. Our boutique facility, professional staff, and genuine care for every dog make us the preferred boarding choice for Montgomery County families who refuse to settle for a standard kennel experience.
