Andrew was amazing with our six month old rescue pup -Dewey. Dewey was a stray puppy born on the streets in Puerto Rico and brought into the US by Lucky Dog rescue when he was 2 months old. He was super reactive to people, other dogs, and basically every noise etc. We started working with Andrew right after we adopted Dewey and worked with him directly for four 1-1 private lessons and then signed Dewey up for Andrew’s 2 week board and train. Dewey just graduated and it’s amazing what Andrew accomplished with Dewey. Dewey is confident, no longer reactive, sits, heels, knows place and can even heel off leash. It’s is AMAZING the transformation in Dewey after being with Andrew in his 2 week board and train. I highly recommend Andrew and his team of trainers at Good K9 Academy. They gave Dewey the confidence and tools to be a successful pup and taught us as well. Good K9 Academy truly cares about their training dogs and the families they are working with.

Our 7 month old dog Rex did the 1 week day training program with Andrew and the results were incredible! Our dog would pull and drag my son and myself. He would pull towards people or any dogs he saw outside walking him was a battle. He would also jump on people when they tried to pet him and now that's no longer a problem. Andrew showed him how to heel, walk off leash, place and follow commands. I enjoyed knowing my dog was with someone who knew what they were doing Andrew has a wealth of knowledge and recommendations which made this a fun learning experience. He took the time to not only teach our dog, but also to teach me how to work with my dog and have him follow my commands.I would highly recommend Good K9 Academy to anyone its an investment worth making you won't regret it. The one on one is great and you will see results right away.PositiveResponsiveness, Reliability, Quality, Professionalism

We are so happy to have found the Good K9 Academy! After completing the 2 week board & train program, our corgi is now turning heads with how eagerly she follows commands like "heel" and a sustained "place" ! The pack walks for alumni are a highlight! When we needed to board our corgi, we knew our pup would be in the best hands. Caroline possesses a rare combination of expertise and kindness that makes dogs feel safe and eager to learn. She also made long-distance flights with our corgi possible by teaching us to train her to feel safe in her travel carrier bag, ensuring a positive travel experience. I highly recommend the Good K9 Academy!

Caroline and Andrew did an amazing job with our energetic 5 year old mixed breed dog who was in desperate need of training. They formulated a clear plan for his board and train and made us feel comfortable throughout his whole stay with regular updates on his progress and wellbeing. When we picked him up they gave us the skills and training we needed to continue his obedience at home. Would highly recommend!ServicesDog boarding with training

After hearing about Good K9 Academy from our friend, we decided to board our dog Sully with Caroline at Good K9 Academy. Sully was extremely reactive before training, and would pull the leash to chase any squirrel, or lunge to say hi to any human or dog that passed us. After the board/train and lots of practice, Sully walks like a service dog and we feel comfortable with him off leash! We cannot say enough good things about Good K9 Academy. When we boarded with Caroline, we were out of the country, and she sent us pictures and videos each day to make us feel at ease. She is so kind, responsive, easy to work with, and great with all dogs. Thank you again Caroline!ServicesDog boarding with training

I am very pleased with Andrew and the time he invested with my dog, Uzi. Andrew is an exceptionally dedicated trainer and did an excellent job teaching my dog to listen. He also paid close attention to Uzi's preferences, recognizing his toy-driven nature, and recommended an e-collar that worked wonderfully during our walks. Thank you so much; I am very impressed.ServicesDog training

I signed my Australian Shepherd dog named Lupo up for the drop off week session with Good K9 Academy. I was highly impressed with how well Andrew the trainer did with my dog. My dog had several bad habits, such as jumping up on people and counter surfing, which he no longer does. He also learned several commands, the most important of which is heel and stay in one position. I would recommend Good K9 Academy to anyone who’s looking for a good dog training facility.

We sent our Golden Retriever, Oscar, to the two-week board and train with David to work on leash pulling and reactivity to loud sounds outside and he did an amazing job. Oscar is now a pro heeler, listens when we say commands and while he is always a bit fearful, David gave us ways to help Oscar cope with the these fears. I could not recommend Good K8 Academy enough for any type of training your dog might need!! They are pros and know how to help the most stubborn of dogs.

David has been amazing to work with! We brought our 7-year-old husky mix, Kali, to Good K9 for help with anxiety and reactivity. She spent about eight months in and out of shelters before I adopted her in 2019. After some early success with training, COVID hit us hard — she became anxious, territorial, and leash reactive. Our recent move to Maryland only added to that!Kali’s anxiety made walks tough. She’s also stubborn, stoic, and generally unmotivated😂. David took the time to understand her, and the progress she made in such a short amount of time was impressive. She’s not perfect (and we’re still learning!), but the difference is night and day.I also love that Good K9 doesn’t stop after training. They offer follow-ups as needed and weekly pack walks for continued practice. Would definitely recommend!ServicesDog boarding, Dog training

I cannot say enough great things about this place! I took my dog, Teddy, here for a two-week obedience boarding program, and it was truly the best decision I could have made. From the moment I arrived, I felt an instant sense of professionalism, care, and expertise. Our trainer, David, was phenomenal—incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and communicative throughout the entire process. He kept me updated regularly and made sure I understood everything Teddy was learning. The progress Teddy made in just two weeks was unbelievable! Not only did his obedience improve dramatically, but he also became more confident and well-mannered overall. What really sold me on this place wasn’t just the training itself, but the positive, welcoming energy of the entire facility. I was so impressed that I immediately recommended it to a friend, and as soon as she visited and met David, she signed up for the two-week boarding on the spot—she could feel the same great vibe I did!If you’re looking for top-tier dog training with trainers who truly care about your pup’s success, this is the place to go. Highly, highly recommend! 🐶👏

Personalized Dog Training in Your Environment

In-home dog training is the most effective way to address behavioral issues that happen where your dog lives. When a professional trainer works with your dog inside your home, they see the real triggers, the real distractions, and the real habits that are causing problems. That is why Good K9 Academy offers private, one-on-one in-home dog training sessions throughout Gaithersburg, Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, Germantown, Silver Spring, and the greater Montgomery County area.

Unlike group classes or facility-based programs, in-home training allows our certified trainers to observe exactly how your dog behaves in their daily environment. Does your dog rush the front door when guests arrive? Do they bark at neighbors through the window? Do they ignore commands in the backyard but obey perfectly in the living room? These context-specific behaviors are nearly impossible to replicate in a training facility, which is why private lessons at home are so valuable for lasting behavioral change.

Each session is tailored to your dog's age, breed, temperament, and the specific goals you want to achieve. Whether you have a new puppy who needs foundation obedience or an adult dog with years of ingrained bad habits, our trainers build a custom plan that fits your situation. Our trainers bring over 10 years of combined professional dog training experience to every session, and have worked with every breed from Goldendoodles and Labrador Retrievers to German Shepherds, Huskies, and Pit Bulls.

From Basic Obedience to Behavior Modification

Our in-home dog training program covers every aspect of obedience and behavior that matters in daily life. We start with the fundamentals that every dog needs: sit, down, stay, come, place command, and leash manners. These are not just party tricks. They are the foundation of communication between you and your dog, and they make every other aspect of training possible. Once the basics are solid, we layer in more advanced skills like reliable recall, off-leash obedience, and impulse control around real-world distractions.

For dogs with more serious behavioral issues, our in-home sessions include targeted behavior modification. Leash pulling, excessive barking, jumping on guests, counter surfing, destructive behavior, and command non-compliance are among the most common problems we solve during private lessons. We also address more complex issues like leash reactivity, fearfulness, resource guarding, and mild aggression. Our balanced training approach combines positive reinforcement with structured accountability, including e-collar training when appropriate, to give your dog clear and consistent communication.

Every session includes hands-on coaching for you as the handler. Dog training is not just about teaching the dog. It is about teaching you how to communicate with your dog effectively so the results hold up long after our sessions are complete. We walk you through timing, body language, leash mechanics, and reward delivery until you feel completely confident maintaining the training on your own. That owner education component is what separates professional in-home training from watching videos online.

Real Results in Real-World Settings

The biggest advantage of in-home dog training is that your dog learns in the exact environment where they need to perform. When we train at your house, your dog practices ignoring the doorbell, walking calmly past your neighbor's fence, and settling on their place bed while your family eats dinner. These are the situations that matter most, and they are the ones most training programs never address because they only work in controlled facilities.

Good K9 Academy's in-home training is also ideal for families with busy schedules. Instead of driving to a training facility and sitting through a group class, we come to you. Sessions are scheduled at times that work for your family, and we work around your routine so training becomes part of your daily life rather than an extra obligation. Many families in Bethesda, Potomac, and Rockville choose in-home training specifically because of the convenience factor.

For dogs who are anxious, fearful, or reactive in new environments, in-home training provides a safe and familiar starting point. We can gradually introduce distractions at a pace your dog can handle, building confidence step by step before taking training outdoors. This approach is especially effective for rescue dogs, dogs with separation anxiety, and dogs who shut down or become overstimulated in unfamiliar places. Our experienced trainers know how to read your dog's body language and adjust the session in real time to keep your dog learning without becoming overwhelmed.

Balanced Training That Lasts

At Good K9 Academy, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to dog training. Every dog that enters our in-home training program gets a customized plan based on their individual personality, drive level, and the specific challenges their owner faces. A timid rescue dog requires a completely different approach than a high-energy Goldendoodle puppy. Our team has the experience and flexibility to work with both, and everything in between.

Our balanced training methodology combines the best elements of positive reinforcement with structured tools like e-collars, prong collars, and long lines when appropriate. This is not about forcing compliance. It is about giving your dog clarity. When a dog understands exactly what is expected and receives consistent feedback, they make better choices because they want to, not because they are afraid. That clarity is the foundation of reliable, real-world obedience that holds up at the park, in the neighborhood, and around company at your home.

With 100+ five-star Google reviews and over 10 years of professional training experience, Good K9 Academy has built a reputation as one of the most trusted dog training programs in Montgomery County. What is the difference between in-home training and training at your facility?

In-home training happens in your environment, which is ideal for addressing house-specific issues like door manners, housebreaking, counter surfing, and separation anxiety.
